Our Solar Power Plant (SPP) Project
As Özteknik, within the scope of our sustainability projects, we aim to minimize our environmental impact by meeting our energy needs through renewable sources. In line with this objective, we are launching our Solar Power Plant (SPP) project. Through this project, we aspire to become a company capable of generating its own electricity and achieving energy independence.
Research indicates that the energy from solar radiation reaching the Earth every second is approximately 170 million MW. This amount is equivalent to 1,700 times the energy produced by Turkey in a year. Due to its geographical location, Turkey experiences around 110 days annually that are highly efficient for solar energy production. By leveraging these natural advantages, we have decided to shift towards an environmentally friendly and sustainable energy source.
This project, which was brought to the agenda of our Board of Directors at the end of 2022, aims to create an environmentally conscious energy production model and reduce our energy costs. Our primary goal with this project is to meet our increasing energy consumption by utilizing natural resources and to eliminate our dependency on external energy sources.
Comprehensive cost analyses conducted within the company indicate that the payback period for this investment is approximately 3.5 years. The average lifespan of our solar power plant is estimated to be 25 years, ensuring the long-term sustainability and profitability of our investment.
In our medium-term plans, we also consider the European Union’s “Green Deal” initiative, which aims to make Europe the first carbon-neutral continent by 2050. In line with the sustainability goals of the European Union, one of Turkey’s most important export markets, we are launching our SPP project to support the green transformation and make our company a preferred choice in exports.
With our SPP project, we plan to reduce our energy costs with clean energy, allowing us to allocate more resources to R&D efforts in different areas. Calculations show that this investment is expected to produce an average of 1,460,000 kWh of electricity annually. This amount will meet 99% of our annual energy consumption. Upon completion of the SPP project, we will meet 99% of our energy consumption from solar energy, reducing carbon emissions and making a significant contribution to the green transformation.
As Özteknik, with this important step in sustainability, we aim to demonstrate an environmentally conscious approach while reducing our energy costs and increasing our competitive strength. The project is planned to be completed within 2024, and during this process, we will continue to inform all our stakeholders and share our sustainability goals.
